Autocross school set up

Talk about trial by fire. The wonderful folks over at Top Gear USA were running behind schedule or something and even though they were aware of our confirmed use of El Toro since February, they needed to use the site for the weekend and requested that we change our schedule on Wednesday before the school. After an emergency board meeting, it was decided that the school would not move and we proceeded as planned. Then on Thursday, things changed again. Top Gear applied some sort of corporate mojo on either the City of Irvine or the folks that manage AMCI and we were told that we would be located in a different location and the lot size would be potentially smaller.

All plans for course layout went out with the wind. We thought we would find out what we would have on Friday morning, but some other unfortunate things happened and we found out definitively what we would have on Friday evening when we arrived for course setup. This meant an onsite pow-wow with Mike Simanyi to confirm what we would have, start laying out the exercises and the course. A big thanks goes to the folks behind the scenes for pulling this together, Mike K, QV, and Jon for coming out to help set up course. Some of the course set up took place in the dark. Jon was setting up the course in his wheel chair - an interesting sight.

The new location meant a change in the way everybody would be entering the site, coming in a totally different way. We were concerned that folks would get lost as this was opposite to the published directions and it was too late to let people know. I tried to send out an email anyway, but Motorsportsreg was not cooperating and it would just sit at the send email screen, with everything composed, but it refused to send the email.

Oh well, we'll see how Saturday turns out.
