Valentines Day Massacre - Sun 02-13-2011

It turned out to be a beautiful day, sunny, warm and not too windy. Wonderful weather for February. For this event, we have some less commonly seen photos of the cars and people in the pit area rather than on course. Hope you like them.

Jason has been very busy prepping the car with some new changes. At the last event, Jeff/Nicole were kind enough to lend us a set of 7.5" rims to try out. We found out that there is a difference between an 89 and 91 trailing arm. The 91 clears the wheel, but the 89 does not. Since we had mixed arms, we weren't able to run the 7.5" rims in the back at the prior event. This event, we are ready.

We've also been working on controlling and managing the weight transfer of the car, which has led to some interesting experiments to see what would happen. As a result, I've learned a little bit more about how setup affects the car (don't ask me to explain, I'm not sure I can do that yet).

We did make a video change at this event. We are now running two Flip HD cameras outside the car, one on each side. We have also added a GoPro® HD Motorsports HERO™ Camera inside to show us driving. Jason has also been playing with different ways to view the video and has come up with a novel way to present everything. Hope you like it.

Mako and Karen are playing at different events this year, so we won't have too many pictures from them. However, we have been lucky enough to have Jerry show up and he has been taking lots of pictures for everybody. Please check out his photos of our event here. In addition, Jason's dad showed up and took photos (which you see here). Thanks Mr. Flores!

A nice feature of the GoPro is that it allows you to set it up to be mounted upside down and have the video come out the right side up. We had to use this setting in the car - which worked great. However, I forgot to reset this setting when I mounted the GoPro on my kids helmet for their runs. The result is cool go kart video that is all upside down. Oops!

The changes we are playing with are helping the car handle better. The grip level has started to go up. However, we aren't quite there yet. Stay tuned as we continue to explore more changes to the car.
