Day 2 - Wednesday

We are up early again and walk the course - several times. Dale and I have talked about the setup changes we'd like to make and we have consulted our setup guru's back in California (Jason and Jon) and the decision is unanimous. We make the changes to the car and are ready to have some fun. The title is out of reach unless something really wacky happens - to a lot of competitors.

We are out walking the course just before the sun rises.

The sun isn't up yet

It does look like it will rain, but we don't know when or for how long. It turns out that it rained while I was working in heat 2. It was pretty entertaining watching the cars on the other course drive by and the wake would knock all 4 cones down and the car was 4 feet away from the wall of cones. The cars running in our work heat were SSM and CPL. That was a treat watching the SSM cars on rain tires go by and the CPL cars spinning every other turn because they didn't have rain tires.

This course is a lot more like a Civic course with transitional elements. This should be fun. The changes to the car helped a lot and it was a lot better, but still not quite right. The course was tricky with several deceptive turns.

Everybody goes faster and Billy Bounds turns in a phenomenal time that shocks the ST world and nobody is close. Way to go Billy!

Nationals is over. A fun but disappointing trip. If you've never been to Nationals, now is the time. This site is absolutely phenomenal - 3 million square feet of concrete, high grip and BIG courses. It's like a pilgrimage. Start saving your pennies for 2010.
