March 28 Champ event

Interesting day to say the least. The event today is at El Toro, my favorite site on the West Coast. The icing on the cake is a course designed by Tom Berry. It turned out to be a Berry difficult course indeed.

Today was also a good day because my kids had come along to play on the dedicated kids go kart track that had been set up on one of the adjacent runways.

In the morning, the kids watched the adults play as there was no Youth Safety Steward available to let the kids run. The course was a fast, yet very challenging one. One that I didn't get right and would love to have another day at it. There is enough room to choose your own line, try to run momentum or keep a tight line and all kinds of variations in between. I didn't have the right combination today. Jeff and Jon found the speed today.

I had two dirty runs and backed off in the last run to get a clean run in the books - which I did. Good enough to put me in 3rd place. I hope to see this course again. I would love to put in a few more banzai runs to see how fast I can go.

Jason puts his runs in and runs into spin trouble at the end while trying to go faster. The difficulty of this course is partially reflected by the 4 second spread in times between all the Civics. Usually the spread is smaller. It's also interesting to see that even though it wasn't one of my better days, I still pax'd 9 out of 251 drivers.

In the afternoon, the car is all packed up and I spend time with the kids as they play with their go karts. It's a wonderful Sunday afternoon - especially watching their times fall as they get more seat time.
