2008 CSCC Awards Banquet ~ Irvine CA

PhotobucketPhotobucket

It was a sunny day in Irvine CA, and all the racers of the CSCC region took a day off to spend to honor the hard work of our region as well as the winner of the 2008 Season. The setting was a nice Italian restaurant our president picked out and we had rented out the whole restaurant!! So around 100 racer traded their helmets and race shoes for some nice jeans and some hair gel to have a nice meal and celebrate our 2008 season.

Here is a look at our Class Trophies. Champions in each class received jackets with their name and class on them and the 2nd and 3rd place receive a nice piece of glass for their trophy cases at home.

...2009 Allstar / Bridgestone ST Civic Drivers!!!!

Not only did we receive our 1st and 2nd place trophies for our performances in 2008. We made a huge announcement that we will be Bridgestone Contract Drivers for 2009. We were very excited since it has been a relationship long time in the making and we look forward to showing everyone what a great tire company Bridgestone is as well as what great products they make. Bridgestone now joins our current sponsors: International Allstars, Lucus Oil, Hyper12valvE, Power Honda Performance, and many others.

Let the tire wars begin

Sunday February 1st was the first event for 2009 (the January event was canceled due to the Santa Ana winds kicking up and knocking over cones). It was nice to see everybody after the holidays - then the competition started.

We were honored with Bill Montgomery from International Allstars coming down with Will to take video of us racing. I can't wait to see the video. BTW, Bill is one of our sponsors, please take a moment to check out his web site.

This event was interesting for several reasons:
This is the first event where our class is now called ST instead of STS. What a mess this class rename is.
Jeff Wong joined the class with his 'new' Civic that is being built.
Mike Palero also joined the class for the first time, co-driving Jon's car.
Kyle Williams started the season with us as well.
This is the start of the tire wars - Bridgestone RE-01R vs. Toyo R1R vs Kumho XS.

The course was a tricky one designed by Tom Berry. I struggled to find my way around the course quickly. Jason did a lot better than I did, staying clean throughout the event. I hit a cone on my first run and take out a wall on my second run, leaving me with just one attempt to come clean and try to win. I hit enough cones that some folks are commenting how unusual that is for me. I think I hit close to my quota for all of 2008 - all in one event.

Tom's course is difficult enough that I decided to just try and get a clean run. More runs would have been nice to attack the course. As it is, I manage a respectable time, but that leaves me 3/10 behind the class leaders. Sebastian wins, Kyle finishes second, I'm third, Jon is 4th and Jason is 5th. Wow - the top three spots are occupied by a different tire brand. The tire war plot thickens.

This should be a very interesting year. Hang on and stay tuned for some updates. A lot of changes are coming for 2009. I'm sure of it.

The weather was beautiful on this Saturday night as Jason and I drove down to the PCA OCR awards held at the beautiful facility of Walters Porsche in Riverside. It was nice to see everybody though it was a little difficult to recognize some folks as it was the first time we were seeing them in anything but race wear. Some folks were looking for us in our signature red/white Lucas Oil shirts too.

The display of Porsches, Mercedes and the Audi R8 in the shop was the highlight of the evening for us. Steve Eguina's GT2 was definitely the cleanest we've ever seen it. Somebody put a lot of work into cleaning the car up - and I'm sure it wasn't Steve. The shop is most impressive in how big, organized, well equipped and clean it is.

One of these days, we'll have to race for one of these PCA OCR trophies and jacket. They are stunning trophies.

Thank you Jerry and Adam for your time and for running such a wonderful autocross clinic. Both Jason and I really enjoy coming down to instruct at El Toro and look forward to doing so again on February 21st.
