Instructing with the Instructors of the PCA club
On Sat Aug 11, Were were invited to a very exclusive event held be PCA. We have been running at their events since the beginning of the year and at the last few events they had approached us with interest in having us help with instructing their members.
So on Saturday morning they held a clinic that included both classroom time and behind the wheel time in Orange County CA. The morning session was helpful for the newer drivers that were interested in more information on how to instruct and was a good refresher for the people that have instructed before. There were instructors from the San Diego Region PCA the Orange County PCA and also us representing the SCCA instructors. So the room was definitely filled with lots of experience and also a lot of interest.
After the morning session we all drove down the freeway to AMCI, and we got a detailed course walk from David Palmquest who did a great job at describing each corner and the decision making process one should go through as then choose which way to go as well as applying the classroom lessons to his walk, which really brought things together.
The rest of the time we spent practicing our instructing skills and driving the course...We did get a few chances to blast the civic around the course and that was fun and we got to take some PCA members in the car and gave them the ride of their lives in the race car..
Great day and great event Kudos to PCA...
Here are the videos from the day

Night of the Living Dead Video
Its Tuesday and I'm barely catching up with myself after what felt like staying up all night on sat night till Sunday morning. With the race on sat night/sunday morning there was not much time to stay ahead of the weekend.
We arrived to the track at 6pm and got out and leisurely unloaded the car since we knew it was going to be a long night we wanted to conserve our energy. We got lots ok looks as we setup since we setup what looked to be 300 watts of lights to help us see during the race. We also had a new mount inside that car that would allow us to take driver input video to match with our outside remote camera. However since we had the light bar we decided to mount a full size camera on it so that we can capture all the action since we knew the remote might be lost with so little light.
The night seemed like it would never end, as eash run group slowly passed. The course seemed very different in the way it looked when we walked when there was light and now that it was dark it would give us an idea on what we needed to look for. I was hoping we would do ok since the light bar was putting such a great pattern out. We were literaly napping in the pit area tha we setup shielding us from the wind as it pick up as it got darker. In the group right before ours a corvette had spilled a large amount of coolant of the down hill towards the finsih so the night became even longer.
When our run group was called, the teamed huddled up to get hype and ready for the runs, we warmed up the car and headed towards the grid. The grid was full but I think we had enough lights for everyone in the 2 driver lane. The course as we found up came quickly, and after reminding myself to not be mesmerized by the great pattern that the light bar was giving and look out and around my times started dropping.
In the end, Stephen ended up in 3rd place and I got a close 4th with only 0.79 between us. Watching the video afterwards was very rewarding since i havent seen myselft inside the car driving in almost a year and i was amazed at how composed i looked and "smooth" my movements are compared to before. I can see myself scanning and looking for what next with purpose and executing. I think that its my favorite and what i call the most humbling camera angle because you get to see all your wierd quirky habits.
Much thanks to Moe from Hyper16valvE from coming out. I hope he got to enjoy watching the car go'round since that is one thing he said he wanted to do, and not have to worry about thing and just watch the car go fast.
Now onto some great new view of our runs...
